Our school is part of a family of schools – The CAM Academy Trust – which means that we have a Board of Trustees that is responsible for the governance of all schools within the Trust.
Our Trust believes strongly that having a local voice at each school is essential. This means that our school also has a Local Advisory Board (LAB). Our Local Advisory Board provide an important connection to our school communities and gain an understanding of the ‘lived experience’ of pupils in individual schools. Although not formally ‘governors’, they undertake a very important role.
The LAB works alongside the principal and the school’s leadership team to help make sure that the school offers the very best education and opportunities for its pupils.
LAB Members include a mix of staff, parents and carers, and people from the local community. This helps ensure that different views are heard and that the school remains closely connected to the community it serves.
Our LAB is part of the Trust’s wider governance structure and the LAB acts as the local ‘eyes and ears’ of the Trust board. While overall accountability sits with the Trust board, LABs focus on understanding and monitoring key areas in the school:
· Educational standards
· Community voice and advocacy
· Safeguarding and wellbeing
The LAB does not run the school day to day. Instead, it takes a strategic role, offering both support and healthy challenge to the principal.
